FAQ
You've got questions. We've got answers.
WHY SHIP BY RAIL?
Shipping by rail typically costs 1/3 of the price of the same shipment by truck. To maximize savings, rail shipments are typically over 500 miles, in bulk quantities, and are less time-sensitive.
WHAT CAN BE SHIPPED BY RAIL?
To name a few: Raw materials such as rock, sand, fly ash; Building materials such as lumber, pipe, steel; Chemicals such as plastic, ethanol, petroleum; Food products such as grain, corn syrup, beer/wine.
CAN I SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE U.S.?
Yes, Blacklands Railroad locations tie directly into the U.S. rail network where products can be shipped anywhere in the country that has a rail destination.
WHAT IS THE COST TO SHIP BY RAIL?
Rail rates vary depending on origin, destination, commodity, quantity, etc. For more information on rates, Contact Us.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE RAIL ACCESS ONÂ MY SITE?
Many shippers take advantage of the rail system by transloading. Transloading does not require direct rail access and can be a cost effective solution for small to medium volume shipments.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TRANSLOADING?
Transloading allows shippers to take advantage of both modes of transportation (rail and truck). By shipping the majority of the distance by rail, you can reduce your overall cost. By transloading to truck, your destination doesn't have to be near a railroad and can allow for increased flexibility.
WHAT CAN BE TRANSLOADED?
Almost any bulk commodity can be transloaded. This includes bulk liquids, aggregates, steel, lumber, plastic resin, and chemicals to name a few. If you are unsure if your product can be transloaded, Contact Us.
